Cardinal Donald Wuerl

March 8, 2014 - He is the sixth and current Archbishop of Washington, D.C. and chairman of the U.S. bishops' Committee on Doctrine, Cardinal Wuerl is one of the foremost leaders of the American Church. Pope Benedict elevated him to the College of Cardinals at a consistory in November 2010.

On October 24, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI named Wuerl to be the Relator-General of the 2012 World Synod of Bishops meeting on the New Evangelization.

Cardinal Wuerl is also a member of the Congregation for the Clergy and the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, a member of the Pontifical Council for Culture, a member of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and a member of the Congregation for Bishops.
