10月27日中午，聖座新聞室召開記者會，介紹第51屆國際聖體大會。這屆聖體大會將於2016年1月24日至31日在菲律賓宿霧舉行，主題為「基督在你們中，作了你們得光榮的希望」（哥1:27）。選擇在宿霧舉行國際聖體大會的原因是要增進對聖體的敬禮，提振傳教熱忱，並開啟菲律賓開教5百週年紀念活動。
宿霧總主教帕爾馬（Josè S. Palma）指出，本屆聖體大會是全東亞的非凡盛事。亞洲是全球成長的一大動力，但還需要更多的福傳。亞洲雖是耶穌降生、生活、死亡及復活的大陸，但天主教會在那裡仍是少數群體。因此，第51屆國際聖體大會可以成為亞洲教會的一面明鏡，照映出教會該如何履行她的福傳使命。
在本屆大會的初步數據方面，帕爾馬總主教表示：「預計會有菲律賓以外的20位樞機、50位主教前來與會；菲律賓至少會有100位主教在2016年1月前來宿霧參加本國主教團全體大會和國際聖體大會。截至今年10月21日為止，我們已經收到來自57個國家共計8345名朝聖者的報名，目前確定將有6百個寄宿家庭接待朝聖者。」
帕爾馬總主教由衷感謝信友們的支持和祈禱，他期許本屆大會能「促進眾人意識到聖體在天主教會的生活和使命內的中心地位，幫助我們更明白禮儀，激勵人們關注聖體的社會幅度」。
緬甸仰光總主教貌波樞機將以教宗特使的身份於1月24日主日在宿霧為本屆國際聖體大會主持開幕彌撒，展開為期一週的大會活動。國際聖體大會委員會主席馬里尼（Piero Marini）總主教解釋說：「在整整一週的時間內，來自全球5大洲的成千上萬名朝聖者將一同參加彌撒聖祭、祈禱、遊行，聆聽要理講授和許多見證，討論重要的宗教議題。他們可以體驗到教會真正的共融團結。」
馬里尼總主教強調，本屆聖體大會的三大重要面向是地理、歷史上的傳教和亞洲現代的福傳。在地理方面，宿霧位於亞洲的中心，平時地處偏遠的基督徒也很容易抵達宿霧。在歷史上的傳教方面，福傳源自於西亞的耶路撒冷，但亞洲的基督徒至今仍是少數群體，唯一的例外是菲律賓。在亞洲現代的福傳方面，亞洲至今最大的福傳阻礙在於「教會往往被認為與亞洲大陸的宗教和文化架構格格不入」，但菲律賓的基督信仰深根於該國傳統的文化和宗教內，「為全亞洲提供了獨一無二的本位化典範」。
