Nothing More Beautiful: Towards a Culture of Life | Late May 2009

The final encounter for the first year of Nothing More Beautiful was held May 21st (broadcast at the end of May) focusing on the theme of Towards a Culture of Life. The head of the diocese of Nelson, British Columbia, Bishop John Corriveau, OFM Cap, provided the catechesis. Originally from small-town Ontario, Bishop Corriveau has acted as the worldwide leader of the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor Capuchin. While serving the poor in Toronto, he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI to shepherd Catholics in the beautiful Okanagan and Kootenay regions of British Columbia. Bishop Corriveau spoke of God as relational – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Created in the image and likeness of God we are called into relationships with others. Using life issues such as abortion and euthanasia, he emphasized that our relationships can not be one of domination or subordination -- with people or with our environment -- and that we must remember the poor and suffering. The witness talk was given by Patrick Stewart, the director of Marian Centre, a Madonna House apostolate, in Edmonton. Patrick discussed how God continually reached out to him, even after he repeatedly turned away. His witness was powerful, moving, honest, and engaging as he explained why we should all strive to be "third," placing God "first" and our neighbour "second."

Nothing More Beautiful: Our New Life in Jesus Christ | Early May 2009

The third Nothing More Beautiful encounter, held on April 30th (broadcast in May), explored the theme of Our New Life in Jesus Christ. A member of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, Archbishop Chaput is a celebrated author - his latest work "Render Unto Caesar: Serving the Nation by Living our Catholic Beliefs in Political Life." Archbishop Chaput emphasized that we cannot be 'halfway' Christians, but must fully live a new life in Christ. A familiar face to Salt + Light Television viewers provided the witness talk. Producer Mary Rose Bacani reflected on three powerful calls she experienced in life that drew her deeper into her faith and deeper into her relationship with the Lord.
