2019年11月25日下午，天主教香港教區宗座署理湯漢樞機在東京參與教宗方濟各主持的彌撒聖祭，梵蒂岡新聞網在彌撒開始前特別採訪了他。
湯樞機表示:「按照天主教社會訓導，如”DOCAT”，和平永遠來自於我們的主耶穌基督，内在的和平是最重要的。我們藉由祈禱來培育自己，之後為和平作見證，或透過我們的言行影響他人，為使和平得以傳遞開來。最後，那些在衝突中的人應該坐下來彼此交談。最終，我們可以實現修和，為使我們能夠實踐上主所要求我們的，即彼此相愛並寬恕他人的冒犯，這就是和平的果實。」

“Following the Social teaching of the Church, peace always comes from our Lord Jesus Christ, and peace should be internal first. We cultivate ourselves with our prayer, and then we witness peace, or we can be a peacemaker through our speech or through our behavior to influence others so that peace can be spread out. And then finally, those people in conflict should sit down and talk to each other. Finally we can achieve reconciliation so that we can implement what the Lord asks us to do: to love each other and to forgive other people’s offenses. So that is the result of peace.”
