2016年12月19日晚，德國柏林發生襲擊事件。一輛貨車衝向聖誕市場的人潮，造成12人死亡，至少48人受傷。教宗獲悉這「恐怖暴行」後深感悲痛，旋即寄發唁電向柏林總主教科赫（Heiner Koch）致哀。
這封唁電由聖座國務卿帕羅林樞機署名。唁電寫道:
「教宗與喪親的家屬們感同身受，表達他的憐憫之情，保證與他們同悲共苦。他在祈禱中將亡者託付於天主的慈悲，並祈求天主治癒傷者。此外，教宗也感謝救援人員和安全部隊的辛勤服務。他與所有打擊恐怖主義的善心人士團結一心，不給恐怖主義的瘋狂殺戮在我們的世界上留有餘地。為此，教宗呼求仁慈的天主父廣施慰藉、庇蔭和安慰之恩。」

意大利中部於當地時間10月30日早上再次發生強烈地震，強度達黎克特制6.6級，導致房屋和聖堂倒塌，損失慘重，所幸沒有人員傷亡。位於重災區諾爾恰(Norcia)，在14世紀落成的聖本篤大殿在今次地震中損毀嚴重。
教宗方濟各當天在帶領信眾誦念三鐘經時，特別向地震災民表達關懷之情並為他們祈禱。教宗說:「我向意大利中部遭到地震襲擊的災民表達我的關懷之情。今天早上那裡再次發生強烈地震，我為傷者和遭受嚴重損失的家庭，也為救災人員祈禱：願復活的主賜予他們力量，願聖母瑪利亞守護他們。」

教宗方濟各向海地風災災民表達傷痛之情，與失去摯愛的人同心祈禱。
颶風馬修（Matthew）近日襲擊海地，造成將近350人死亡。在一封由聖座國務卿帕羅林樞機署名，寄給海地主教團主席朗格魯瓦（Chibly Langlois）樞機的唁電中，教宗保證他在精神上與這次風災的所有災民同在，並將亡者託付於天主的慈悲，願天主在祂的光中接納他們。教宗還鼓勵眾人在這新一輪的考驗中團結互助。
聯合國指出，這次風災在海地造成的人道危機比2010年地震的災情更為嚴重。海地SOS兒童村工作人員克蘭基（Elena Cranchi）女士向梵蒂岡台表示：
「這次颶風破壞力強大！成千上萬的房舍因此受損，許多家庭再次失去一切！這片土地6年前才在地震中嚴重受創，如今通訊困難，最迫切的緊急危難與缺水斷糧密切相關。現在水源很髒，受到污染，傳染病的風險極高，這令人十分擔憂，連聯合國兒童基金會也發出呼籲。我們正在與地方當局合作，努力將緊急救援物資分送給受災的家庭與兒童。災民人數很多，據說光是兒童就有4百萬人。」
